Main Street Board Members Needed
We invite you to apply for our Board of Directors. We currently have several openings. Click here for a BOARD APPLICATION board__application or pick one up at our office. We need members who are committed and willing to not only attend monthly Board meetings but willing to help develop plans and goals, volunteer at events and encourage membership. Each Board Member should demonstrate interest in the Main Street program’s purpose and goals and have specific experience that would be useful to the organization. Board members should be willing to commit four to 10 hours of volunteer time per month, exclusive of board meetings. Job responsibilities will include guiding the overall direction of the program. Other expectations include:• Being good ambassadors for the organization;• Acting as consensus builders; • Serving as chair of a committee; • Raising funds for the organization; and • Mastering how the organization works, which begins by attending a Main Street orientation.

Officer Job Descriptions Title: President Time required: 8-10 hours per month above and beyond that of a regular board meeting.General Description:The President serves as a link between the board of directors and the Executive Director. He/She assists the Executive Director in defining priorities and directions based on the published goals of the organization and board policies. The President acts as a link between the Organization and the community, serving to explain the program to the public, helping to involve new people in the program and garnering both philosophical and financial support of the program. The President also oversees the Organization in a functional way, guiding and facilitating the working relationships within the Organization.Major Job Elements:· Communication with the Board, community and Executive Director.· Coordination within the Organization to facilitate the decision making process· Delegation of responsibility within the Organization.· Monitoring the accountability of the Organization.· Supervising the performance of the Executive Director.Other Job Elements:· Assists the Executive Director in determining the Board meeting agenda· Chairs the Board meetings· Calls special meetings when necessaryReports to:· The Board of DirectorsArea of Major Commitment:Communication with the Board, the community and the Executive DirectorBasic Skills of the Board President:· Good leadership, team building and management skills· Strong verbal and written communication skill; good listening skills· Flexibility· A strong belief in the mission statement and the principles guiding the Main Street program and a willingness to support them.· A solid understanding of the Main Street Approach and a willingness to be a representative of that concept.· A realistic understanding of the time and energy involved in holding an officer’s position. Title: Vice President Time required: 8-10 hours per month above and beyond that of a regular board meeting.General Description:The Vice President’s role is that of support for the President. He/She shares the presidential responsibilities as delegated by the president, working in whatever capacities the President and Vice President deem to be most beneficial to the organization. These capacities should be written up in the form of a temporary job description on a year by year basis. This includes keeping all finicial records up to date. The Treasurer is ultimately responsible for seeing that the bills of the organization are paid in a timely manner.
